In recent days it has been said that it is an insult to the electorate to say that the papers had any influence on the election. But I have heard people repeating headlines from the papers as if it was their own thinking – I am guilty of it too as most of us are. So it is reassuring to see this post from someone with real knowledge of the subject offering reasons for press influence.
Barack Obama’s hugely experienced aide David Axelrod – who advised Ed Miliband on his campaign – was unequivocal about the press hostility which he faced in the run-up to this election: “I’ve worked in aggressive media environments before but not this partisan.”
